Review: Rotor Riot MFI certified controller is the perfect addition for Apple Arcade

As someone who grew up playing video games, works at a game store (EBGames RIP), and can generally talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly of every generation – this is the golden age of video games. Between Stadia and Xbox Game Pass, the amazing in-game experiences on Playstation 5, and the portability of Apple Arcade and Nintendo Switch solutions – there too much Great games that can consume all your time. If you subscribe to Apple Arcade either directly or through the Apple One, there are a number of great titles to play. The perfect addition to Apple Arcade is the Rotor Riot MFI certified iPhone Controller.

For the past few weeks, we’ve been using the console to play a lot of Apple Arcade games. Despite the quality of touchscreen games, owning a console makes a world of difference when sitting down for a long gaming session.

The console is compatible with a number of games on the App Store. This list is not the complete list, but it is a good example of the quality of titles available.

  • Call of duty
  • Maine Craft
  • Oceanhorn
  • Stardu Valley
  • NBA 2K21 (Apple Arcade Edition)
  • Madden 22
  • real racing 3
  • Autosport . network
  • F1 mobile racing
  • Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
  • Grand Theft Auto Vice City
  • a trip
  • Asphalt 9: Legends
  • Package 2
  • Persia gate
  • After Pulse – Elite Army
  • Talos principle
  • morphet
  • Street Fighter IV Champion Edition
  • Gear Club Race True
  • bully

In total, there are more than 1,000 compatible games.

In terms of hardware, it reminds me of the Nimbus controller I’ve used for Apple TV games for many years. It has two analog controllers, the D-Pad, four buttons, and then four shoulder buttons. It also includes L3/R3 firing buttons on the joysticks.

The console plugs directly into your Lightning port, but there is a pass-through port for connecting a Lightning cable to the console to charge your iPhone. While connecting it to an iPhone may seem like a downside, I’d rather do it than deal with the batteries for another device.

Above the console is a dock where it holds your iPhone. I am using iPhone 13 Pro Max, and it fits perfectly. Even with the Max’s weight, it is still comfortable to hold for extended periods. If you want to use the console with an iPad, you can remove the post and support the iPad.

Overall, it is a powerful console in your hand and well suited for mobile games.

Game integration

Apple has built a great solution for integrating the game with MFI certified consoles. When I was playing the Apple Arcade version of NBA 2K21, all the tips on the screen were related to the controller button. I saw the same in Madden 22 as well.

As I mentioned earlier, there are more than 1,000 compatible games. Since the console is at the lower end of the price range for certified iPhone accessories, it’s a great way to play games with tactile input.

Overall, Rotor Riot MFI Certified for iPhone is a great gift idea for someone who enjoys gaming, has an iPhone and wants to play on the couch or on the go. I’ve enjoyed playing some of the old games I’ve played years ago as well as finding newer ones. If you’re into touch gaming but are interested in some great gaming options on the App Store or Apple Arcade, then the controller is an important accessory for your iPhone. My kids absolutely loved it (and now they’re fighting for it). If you have an Apple Store Gift Card, it’s available directly from Apple as well.
