Spotify has started testing a new “Discover” feature similar to TikTok on its iOS app. The company is beta testing a vertical video feed that users can scroll through on the app.
This feature was first discovered by Chris Messina Then it was reported by Take Crunch. Messina tweeted a video of the newly implemented Discover tab on the Spotify app. He described the feature as “a shortened version of a TikTok-style feed.”
not only this, Tweet embed Discover is basically a shortened version of a TikTok-style feed of vertical music videos (most likely using their canvas format) that you can like or skip.#NewSpotify pic.twitter.com/hpOEZ8v9bl

As seen in the video, the Discover tab can be found as a fourth tab at the bottom of the screen. Once there, users can scroll through the feed and like individual videos. A three-dot menu icon is also included where users can find additional options for each song.
A Spotify spokesperson provided a statement to TechCrunch confirming that this feature has been tested. At Spotify, we routinely run a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience,” the spokesperson said. “Some of these tests end up paving the way for a broader user experience, and others just serve as important learning. We don’t have any other news to share at this time.”
Spotify appears to be building its own Canvas feature, which artists can use to play their videos along with their music. TechCrunch notes that the videos in the Discover feed are the same as those used through Canvas.
Spotify has joined other platforms where a TikTok-style feed has been implemented. Of course, Instagram has seen a lot of success with Reels. Snapchat has a Spotlight feed as well. Recently, Netflix began testing a similar feature aimed at children’s programming and discoverability.
It’s unclear if and when the Discover tab will be rolled out to a wider audience. In addition, it is unclear if the test will be performed on Android devices.
